Catholic Ends Regular Season with Two Wins

Posted by soccermom under: Boys News; Irish Soccer .

After the Springfield Catholic Boy’s Soccer Team recognized their senior players, Catholic faced a district team, the Aurora Houn’ Dawgs.  In these last games of the regular season, both Varsity and JV defeated  the Aurora Varsity and JV teams.

In the varsity game, Catholic attacked their goal many times in the first half until Taylor Arens finally put the ball in the net 19 minutes into the game.  Catholic was not able to score again until the 45 minute when Matt Libel dribbled the ball down left side and centered the ball to Justin Bowenschulte who placed the ball past the goalie.  Catholic Varsity won their game 2-0.

Game notes:
First Half
Goal 1 – Taylor Arens (assist Jeff Wiegers)
Second Half
Goal 2 – Justin Bowenschulte (assist Matt Libel)

The Catholic JV team took 34 minutes before Tim Brooks centered the ball from the left side to Thomas Diebold who scored first.  Then only 4 minutes later, Catholic moved the ball with sharp passes until Niko Temofeew found Austin Lewis who finished for a goal.  Although Catholic controlled the entire second half, with the ball rarely on their defensive end, they never were able to complete another goal.  In the final game of their season, Catholic JV wins 2-0.  The Catholic JV finished their first season with a winning record of 5-3-1.

Game notes:
First Half
Goal 1 – Thomas Diebold (assist Tim Brooks)
Goal 2 – Austin Lewis (assist Niko Temofeew)

Although Catholic JV season is finished with the win, Catholic Varsity has a game at 6pm on Tuesday, October 30 in the semi-final game of the Class 1 District 6 Tournament on Cooper 1 field.

No matter what happens, this has been an awesome 1st season. The team has been a joy to watch (although more joyful some nights than others). The first Greenwood game, the last Cassville game, and the Monet game will remain in our collective memory for some time. It has been a beautiful thing to see these guys bond and gel as a team. We are very lucky to have two great coaches. Thank you to the many people involved in making this possible for our boys. Go Irish!!
