Catholic Finishes with a Fight
Posted by soccermom under: Boys News; Irish Soccer .
Catholic fought hard for the 80 plus minutes the officials let them play. In a game where Sam Taggart was playing on an ankel that was sore and braced, he played though the pain with great intensity. Justin Bowenschulte played through NCA players all night until he was stopped with an ankel injury on 50/50 ball. Josh Moncada seemed to be ball magnet, practically every time pressured a ball he would seem be able to knock it down and push it forward. David Bailey not only kept the ball away from the goal most of the night, he finished the game in a forward position in attempt to get that goal that would give us chance at OT. Every Catholic player could be mentioned because they all contributed not only to this game but what got us this far – they all should be proud, hold their head high and know what an accomplishment they had this year.
Game notes:
First Half
scoreless
Second Half:
Goal 1 – NCA off a CK
Goal 2 – Justin Bowenschulte (assist Cullen Barr – fouled at top of box)
Goal 3 – NCA
Catholic Varsity team ends their season with a 17-8-1 record.

As one of the senior’s father, I would like to commend the entire team for playing hard in this district final loss. It’s sometimes very hard to find comfort in a loss; however, I would ask that the players and fans reflect on this just ended season. In your inaugural season you accomplished the following: undefeated at home, beat a top 10 ranked class 2 team (Cassville), lost 0-1 to the 4th ranked class 1 team (Pembroke Hill), season record 17-8-1, and won the first game of the season against Greenwood. A lot of you did not really know each other before this season started. I knew that you were a special bunch of young men when you gathered around my son Sam when he sprained his ankle during the MSU team camp. Your respect and support of each other is a kindness that that should make your parents proud! Remember the progress that you made during the season, both as a team and individually. Sometimes we get too focused on the end, the prize to truly appreciate the journey. It has truly been a joy to watch you all practice, play, and interact with each other. I wish you and your family the best! Continue the tradition!
