Lady Irish finish 1-1-1 in Kickapoo Shootout

After not playing for 10 days the Lady Irish got off to a slow start in the Kickapoo Shootout losing the opener 3-1 to Parkway West. West scored first in the 16th minute. Tara Bailes leveled the match in the 34th minute when she converted from a scramble in the box off a corner kick that was flicked on by Anna DeLong. The Lady Irish had several chances in the second half but could not finish. Parkway West scored in the 60th minute and again in the dying seconds for the final margin.
The Lady Irish won their Saturday morning match against Rogers, AR winning the PK competition following a 1-1 score at the end of regulation. Shelby Hatz gave Catholic the lead 5 minutes into the second half when she finished a ball from Rebecca Mayus. Rogers equalized with 7 minutes to play sending the game to PKs. Anne Prenger, Tara Bailes, Shelby Hatz, and Natalie Smid converted and Rachel Scott saved the final Rogers shot giving Catholic a 4-3 advantage.
The afternoon match pitted Catholic against St. Louis Notre Dame. The Lady Rebels got on the board first in the 12th minute when a free kick ended up in the Irish net. Catholic leveled the match in the 64th minute on a strong finish by Tara Bailes of a Natalie Smid pass. The girls showed great heart coming back to gain a draw into a strong wind only an hour after the morning match against the state’s #7 ranked Class 1 team.
