Waynesville defeats Lady Irish 4-3
Posted by Coach T under: Irish Soccer .
The Ozark Conference Champion Waynesville Lady Tigers came to Springfield to take on the Lady Irish in what turned out to be an exciting end-to-end affair. Catholic got off to a good start when Shelby Hatz knocked in a cross from Rachel Herron in the 7th minute. Katie Pritchard leveled the match for Waynesville in the 18th minute and Natascha Lord put the Tigers up with a goal in the 29th minute. Carsen Baron equalized for the Irish with a nice finish of a Shelby Hatz cross in the 36th minute, but Pritchard scored again three minutes later sending the Tigers to the break with a 3-2 advantage. The Irish suffered a big loss in the 52nd minute when GK Rachel Scott was sent off for a hand ball just outside the penalty area. Carsen Baron put on the gloves and entered the goal for the Irish, but they would have to play the rest of the way with 10 players against the very fast and athletic Tigers. Erica Combs scored for Waynesville off a corner kick with 10 minutes to play. But the Irish did not quit. Natalie Smid brought Catholic to within one at 4-3 with a nice finish off a Maddy Renner cross, but Waynesville held on for the one goal win.
Congratulations to Katie Pritchard on setting the Class 2 state record with her 168th and 169th career goals.
