Catholic Improves Record

Posted by soccermom under: Boys News .

Similar to their first meeting this year, Catholic maintained possession for most of the game.  With West Plains primarily playing a defensive game in the first half with as many of nine West Plains players in the box defending their goal, Catholic was only able to score one goal in the first half.  At 4 minutes in the game, Luke Straus kicked a corner kick from the right side of the field to the far left side of the goal where Taylor Arens perfectly headed the ball over the West Plains’ goal keeper.

Catholic was able to add their second goal at 44 minutes when Cullen Barr was able to take the ball from the West Plains player in the back field and score an unassisted goal.  At 59 minutes, Niko Temofeew kicked the ball from the right side of the field to Cullen Barr in front of the goal, who was able to place the ball passed the GK and score Catholic’s third and final goal.

Although Catholic only scored 3 goals, they had many goal scoring opportunities as evidence by their 14 shots on goal to West Plains which had no shots on goal the entire game.  West Plains did play hard and kept up their efforts the entire game with positive actions and teamwork.

This was the first game of the Camdenton Soccer Shootout, Catholic will play two games on Saturday.  First game is at 11:00 am against Hannibal and the final game is at 7:00 pm against Camdenton, it appears both will provide Catholic with good competitive games.  In an earlier game tonight, Camdenton beat Hannibal with a score 5-4 in OT.
