Catholic started the second day of the Kickapoo Tournament – Brown Division with an 8:30 game against Lee Summit West. Catholic got on the board first at 22 minutes when Cullen Barr slipped a ball past the LSW GK (Goal). LSW answered quickly with a goal of their own at 28 minutes. Game was tied 1-1 at half.
Only 9 minutes into the second half, LSW was able to break the defense down and score the final and go-ahead goal. Although Catholic had several chances in the second half, they never completed. Catholic lost to LSW with a final score of 2-1.
In the second game of the day, Catholic had a rematch with Pembroke Hill. After defeating Pembroke Hill in the very first game of the year 2-1, Catholic expected a Pembroke Hill that was wanting a win to revenge the earlier game. Pembroke Hill came out with alot of energy and pressure, however Catholic matched the energy level. At 30 minutes, Catholic’s midfielder Justin Bowenschulte found Austin Lewis who was able to tap the ball past the Pembroke GK (Goal 1). That gave Catholic the 1-0 advantage at half.
Catholic came out fast at the 44 minute when Adam Entrup perfectly placed a leading pass to Cullen Barr who won the 1-on-1 battle with the PH GK to score the second goal of the game (Goal 2). Only 1 minute later, when a passed back ball to GK Levi Millsap was sent to Adam Entrup who again was able to win a 1-on-1 with the PH GK scoring the 3rd Catholic goal (Goal 3).
Pembroke Hill did find the back of the next at 69th minute. Again, only a minute later, at 70 minutes, Cullen Barr was able to beat the PH GK off a pass from Justin Bowenschulte. PH goalkeeper was able to defend 3 other 1-on-1 situations (Goal 4). The final score was Catholic 4 – Pembroke Hill 1.
Catholic finished 7th in the Brown Division Bracket. Athough Catholic recorded two more losses this weekend, they were to quality Class 3 teams, providing Catholic with good game situations to help them to finish the rest of their season.
