Lady Irish lose hard fought 2-1 battle with Columbia Hickman

The Lady Kewpies of Hickman High School defeated the Lady Irish 2-1 in the first round of the Rolla Tournament. The game was a back and forth affair that saw Hickman take a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute when Grace Grigg heaed a free kick high in the air just under the cross bar. Shelby Hatz tied the game for the Irish in the 35th minute when she took a pass from Emily Loethen and made a 50 yard run beating two Kewpie defenders in the process and found the back of the net from 15 yards. The battle raged throughout the second half with both teams having several good opportunities. The game winning goal came in the 58th minute from the Kewpies’ Nicole Drenton on a 15 yard shot just under the bar. Both teams fought tenaciously until the final whistle. Hickman out shot Catholic 15-13 in a very entertaining early season match.
The Lady Irish are scheduled to play the host Rolla Lady Bulldogs tomorrow (Saturday) at 9:00am and Washington High School at 2:00pm.
