Lady Irish win COC Championship
Posted by soccermom under: Girls News .
The Catholic girls defeated Bolivar 4-1 in Bolivar this evening to win their first COC Small School championship with a 6-0 conference record. The game began badly for the Irish when goalkeeper, Rachel Scott, was sent off (red card) in the 12th minute when the referee ruled she stopped a Bolivar goal scoring opportunity by handling the ball outside the penalty area. Catholic would have to play the remainder of the game with 10 players. Natalie Smid put the Lady Irish ahead in the 16th minute when she hit a nice shot from the top of the penalty area after taking a pass from Anna DeLong. Bolivar tied the match in the 26 minute when Jonna Welch hit a blast just under the bar from 24 yards out. Catholic played one of their best halves of the season in final 40 minutes. Carson Baron, Rebecca Mayus, Kathleen Garrison, Connor Guy, and Jessica Bowman played extremely well defensively against the aggressive Bolivar attack. Catholic took the lead in the 57th minute when Carson Baron sent a free kick into penalty area that was finished nicely by Natalie Smid. Bekah Bade entered the game in the 57th minute and in the 62nd minute she ran onto a ball from Carsen Baron and beat the keeper from 15 yards. Five minutes later Bekah found the end of an Erin FitzGerald corner kick putting the Irish up by three goals. In addition to Smid and FitzGerald excellent minutes were provided in the midfield by Maddy and Ronnie Renner, Andrea Parker, Courtney Devlin, Emily Loethen, and Emily Ortega. Emily Kessler put in some good minutes at forward and Megan Goetzinger played a strong 68 minutes in goal making a diving save with six minutes to play keeping the momentum on the side of the Irish.
The Lady Irish won the JV match 5-4.
