Catholic defeats Southern Boone 2-1 advances to State Finals

Catholic defeated Southern Boone County 2-1 tonight in the state quarterfinal game in Waynesville to advance to the state finals in Fenton. Natalie Smid scored in the 3rd minute off a pass from Maddy Renner. Jessica Bowman put the Irish up by two in the 36th minute when she hit a solid shot from 25 yards after taking a pass from Natalie Smid. Catholic had numerous opportunities in each half, but had great difficulty finishing against the Lady Eagles. In the 69th minute Southern Boone All-State performer, Tillie Bill, found the left post “upper 90” bringing her team to within a goal. The Irish were able to withstand the renewed energy of their opponents over the final 10 minutes to secure their first trip to state since 2004.
The Lady Irish will face Trinity Catholic, a 1-0 winner over Whitfield, in the state semifinal game on Friday, June 5th at 1:00 pm on Field #1 at the A-B Soccer Center in Fenton.
