Catholic Sweeps Rogersville with Two Shutouts

Posted by soccermom under: Irish Soccer .

Both Catholic V and JV added wins to their records tonight on a rainy night against Rogersville, 9-0 and 5-0, respectively.

teamBecause there are no lights at the Rogersville field, the Varsity game was played first.  Although Catholic controlled the game, it took over 14 minutes before Catholic could get on the board when David Bailey scored off a ball that rebounded off the Rogersville GK.  It took another 14 minutes before David Bailey could score again off a pass from Luke Straus.  At 37 minutes in, Luke Straus scored off an assist from Reid Harbach.

As Luke Straus finished off the first half, he started the second half with a goal at 45 minutes in off an assist from Niko Temofeew.  Nick Kofron served a free kick into Justin Bowenschulte for the 5th goal.  Nick Kofron then scored from off a pass from David Bailey.  Then scoring  his first high school goal, Mitchell Moncada scored 56 minutes in off a pass from David Bailey.  The 8th goal was scored when Evan Craig virtually ran the ball into the goal off a shot from James Straus.  The final goal is noteworthy because 3 year Varsity defensive player Josh Moncada gain possession of the ball and carried it the length of the field to score his first goal of his career at 80 minutes into the game.  Catholic GK Levi Millsap recorded his first shutout with only one save in the Catholic 9-0 victory.  The defensive line of Connor Dahlberg, Reid Harbach and Josh Moncada was successful in keeping the ball away from the goal.

SCHS- Rogersville- Diebold goalCatholic JV was limited to two 25 minute halves because there were no lights.  Even with the limited time, JV was able to put 5 goals on the board.  Thomas Diebold got a fast start with a goal at 2 minutes in.  It took until the 28 minute until Evan Craig was able to dribble the ball the length of the field and scored.  As the Catholic offense took off, Blake Bremer was able to score from a pass from Nick Mullen at 38 minutes.  James Straus added a goal from an assist from Evan Craig.  Then at 45 minutes, Thomas Diebold scored the final goal from a pass from James Straus.

James Straus and Dylan Buehler combined their efforts in goal for the shutout.  Like their Varsity counterparts, the defenders, David Taylor, Ricky Delong, John Mullins and Nick Tonjuk successfully kept the ball away from the goal.

The next game is on Saturday, September 19 when SCHS Varsity will face Greenwood Varsity at their first game on their newly renovated field at the SCHS at 7:00 pm.
