Catholic Defeats Greenwood

Posted by soccermom under: Irish Soccer .

Despite rainy weather and saturated field conditions, Catholic and Greenwood met up in their first competition this year.  Catholic scored first, but it took 28 minutes before a free kick by Justin Bowenschulte rebounded off the Greenwood Gk and Taylor Arens was able to finish it off.

Unfortunately, Greenwood was able to even he score up in the 32 minute when Greenwood’s Devon Whitlock was able to breakdown the middle and shot a ball outside the box that fell in right under the crossbar.

In the second half, David Bailey was able to score the winning goal when he knocked  a ball in off a serve from Taylor Arens in the 49 minute.    The security goal was scored by Catholic in the 72 minute when Reid Harbach passed Luke Straus the ball on the left side.  Luke fired a rocket shot off Greenwood GK and finished the goal.

Catholic was able to maintain possession of the ball a majority of the game.  With Greenwood’s packed in defense, it shut down many scoring opportunities.  In addition to the goals scored, Adam Entrup and Justin Bowenschulte also had good shots on goal that were successfully stoped by the Greenwood GK.
