Catholic Finishes Second in Collinsville Tournament
Posted by soccermom under: Irish Soccer .
Catholic had their first appearance the premier Collinsville Tournament in the Soccer Masters Bracket that includes a variety bigger school teams.
After recording two earlier wins in the tournament, Catholic faced the sixth ranked Class 3 Ft. Zumwalt South team in the Championship game at 3:30 today. Catholic was unable to defend them early allowing a goal only 5 minutes in. Catholic seemed to settle in with making some drives of their own but without testing the FZS GK. Allowing a couple more goals in the first half, the score was 3-0 FZS.
Catholic stepped it up and with some GK saves denied FZS any goals on the second half. The fatigue of the first two games became evident with Catholic unable to get on the board. Final score was FZS 3-0. The Catholic players never relaxed their level of play until the final whistle blew.
Being the Championship game of the Soccer Master’s Bracket, they finished 2nd third bracket. Leaving Collinsville with 2 wins and only 1 loss was a strong showing for a Class 1 team in a tournament of this caliber.

Great tournament with two wins over quality opponents! The St. Louis Post Dispatch has an article in the Sunday paper with a short recap of the title game, a picture also. Keep working hard, you all deserve your state ranking!
