HIGHLIGHT VIDEO – Catholic’s game against Rogersville tonight, Tuesday, October 6, was moved from SCHS to Rogersville because of the soccer field at Catholic was saturated. Because Rogersville’s field does not have lights, the Varsity team played first starting at 4:30 pm.
Catholic controlled the entire first half, taking numerous shots toward and on goal. The Rogersville GK, Turner Brock, defended their goal by saving 12 goals in the first half. It took all 40 minutes in the first half before Catholic could finally score a goal when a serve from Austin Lewis was scored by David Bailey.
The second half started off with a fast run by Adam Entrup down the right side when he was able to center the ball perfectly to David Bailey to score his second goal in the 41st minute. Rogersville continued to pack in the defense making putting the ball in the goal fairly difficult. Catholic middle-fielder Justin Bowenschulte was able to scorein the 48th minute off a pass from Josh Moncada. In the 53rd minute, the fourth goal was another combo between Adam Entrup and David Bailey, creating a hat trick for Bailey as he scored his third goal of the day.
Taylor Arens was working his way to the goal with the ball when he was taken down in the box. Taylor Arens took his own PK and shooting it pass the Rogersville GK. The final score of the game was 5-0. Rogersville was able to keep Catholic’s goal total down by crowding the box and making it difficult to get the ball there.
The JV was only able to play a 35 minute half because it got dark too fast. Evan Craig started the scoring fast when in the first minute he was able to score the first goal. In the 17th minute, Jim Hill worked his way through the defense until he got the ball to the goal and past the Rogersville GK. The final JV goal was scored in the 27th minute when Burke James scored off a pass from Nick Jacobs.
Even though JV was only able to play one 35 minute half, they were able to outplay the Rogersville soccer more than the 3-0 score would indicate.
