Springfield Catholic faced J.F. Kennedy Catholic today in the first Class 1 tournament game. Springfield Catholic was able to control much of the time with their possession game. Springfield Catholic first got on the board at 14 minutes when Junior Nick Kofron took a free kick, when Sophomore Luke Straus was fouled, that Senior David Bailey was able to finish. Only two minutes later, Freshman Mitchell Moncada fought down field with the ball and had a sharp pass to Senior Justin Bowenschulte. Bowenschulte’s hard shot fired pass the Kennedy GK.
J.F. Kennedy Catholic began showing frustration as Springfield Catholic continued to control the game. Along with frustration, the game became more and more physical eventually resulting in 7 player yellow cards being handed to Kennedy players and 2 coach yellow cards that resulted in the Kennedy’s coach being ejected from the game.
Springfield Catholic topped off their score in 69th minute when Junior Adam Entrup scored off a pass from Sophomore Luke Straus. Springfield Catholic advances to the championship game with the 3-0 win over J.F. Kennedy Catholic.
Springfield Catholic will play the winner of today’s Whitfield/St. Pius X game.
