Lady Irish win Rolla Tournament
Posted by soccermom under: Irish Soccer .
The Springfield Catholic Lady Irish won the rain shortened Central Federal Rolla Tournament as a result of the tournament scoring system as all four teams finished with one win and one loss. Catholic defeated Washington 3-0 resulting in 7 points for the Irish. Columbia Hickman defeated Catholic 2-0 (6 points), Washington defeated Rolla 2-0 (6 points), and Rolla defeated Hickman 2-1 (4 points).
The Lady Irish played well against Hickman generating a number of good chances throughout the match while limiting the Kewpie’s chances for the first 70 minutes. Unfortunately, Catholic failed on several chances to clear a Hickman corner kick with 10 minutes to play. Hickman finally knocked the ball into the net taking the lead. The second goal came in the final two minutes of play when Catholic turned the ball over in the back leading to the final score.
The girls did not leave the field as the Washington game began 30 minutes following the final whistle of the Hickman game. The girls responded well to the challenge as Shelby Hatz blew by the Washington defense scoring breakaway goals in the 5th, 9th, and 25th minutes to lead the Irish to the win. The second and third goals were set up by nice passes from Bekah Bade and Jordan Banasik.
The girls play away games at Carl Junction on Monday and Rogersville on Tuesday, before their annual battle with the Kickapoo Lady Chiefs on Friday at Kickapoo.
