Lady Irish defeat Nixa 1-0

Catholic defeated a very good Nixa squad 1-0 this evening at home when Natalie Smid headed home an Erin FitzGerald corner kick in the 75th minute. The two teams were evenly matched and provided the large crowd with an exciting 80 minutes of soccer with good scoring chances each way throughout the evening. Rebecca Mayus and Carsen Barron anchored the center of the Irish defense while Ronnie Renner, Connor Guy, Jessica Bowman, and Emily Loethen battled the Lady Eagles on the flanks. Shelby Hatz returned to the Irish lineup after missing a week with a strained knee and provided a spark for the attack working up top with Bekah Bade and Jordan Banasik. Smid, Erin FitzGerald and Mandy Bailes played well in the central midfield against a strong Nixa midfield and Andrea Parker, Emily Ortega, Rachel Herron, Courtney Devlin and Emily Loethen kept pressure on the Eagles on the outside. Rachel Scott and Megan Goetzinger combined for their 12th shutout of the season for the Irish in a very good win for Catholic.
Nixa won the JV match 4-1.
