Lady Irish defeat Waynesille

Posted by soccermom under: Irish Soccer .

The Lady Irish beat the Waynesville Lady Tigers 4-0 this evening in Waynesville to raise their season record 15-4-1.  Just getting to play the game was an adventure.  The match was originally scheduled to be played at Catholic but the heavy rains resulted in the contest being moved to Waynesville on the turf.  The Irish left the high school at 3:45 for the scheduled 5:30 start and the bus broke down in Strafford.  The girls immediately got on their cell phones and enough parents arrived in Strafford to transport players and coaches to Waynesville in time to begin the game at 6:00.

Natalie Smid opened the scoring with a 22 yard shot under the bar from an Erin FitzGerald pass.  Ten minutes later FitzGerald sent Bekah Bade into penalty area and Bekah beat the keeper to the near post.  Shelby Hatz scored in the 50th and 53rd minutes to put the game away for the Irish.  Assists on Shelby’s goals went to Bekah and Courtney Devlin.  Rachel Scott and Megan Goetzinger recorded their 14th combined shutout in goal for the Irish.

Waynesville won the JV game 1-0.
