Irish Beat Ozark in 3 – 2 OT Win
The Irish started the game strong with a goal in the fourth minute on a excellent cross from the left flank by Luke Straus. Straus sent the ball into the box where Evan Craig slotted it in under the diving keeper. Catholic continued to create chances in the first half but couldn’t find the net. The first half ended with the Irish up by 1 goal.
The second half began like the first, with the Irish creating chances, however in the 20th minute Ozark got on the board off a set piece goal by Jakob Neidig. Neidig was able to out jump the defenders and placed a nice header into the far coner of the net. Two minutes later the Tigers shocked the Irish with another goal by Jacob Agee. This was the first time that the Irish trailed in a game all season. With their backs to the wall the Irish responded with a goal three minutes before the end of regulation. Reid Harbach placed a nice header into the net off of a Luke Struas feed sending the game into OT.
During the OT period the Irish continued to dominate possession and created chances, but couldn’t finish. However, with three minutes left in the second OT Ryan Randall pushed forward from his left back position and finished a Luke Straus cross.
The Irish out shot the Tigers 23 to 5 on the night.
With the win the Irish improved to 14 – 0 – 1 on the season going in to the Kickapoo Shootout over the weekend.

Late in the game Catholic and Rogersville each added another goal Evan Craig (Mitch Moncada) for Catholic and McHenery for Rogersville.

Gateway City Soccer Classic
SCHS went 2-0-1 in the Gateway City Soccer Classic. In the first match of the tournament, SCHS beat Bellville East HS, (IL) 5 -0. On the turf field at Fort Zumwalt West HS, the Irish playing some of the best soccer of the season, got off to a fast start and never looked back. With a strong showing by the back line and limiting Bellville East to only a couple of scoring opportunities, the Irish improved to 11 – 0. The Irish got goals/assists from: Mitch Moncada (2G, 1A), Evan Craig (1G, 2A), Dallas Moses (1G, 1A) and Luke Straus (1G).
On Saturday morning the Irish faced a good Fort Zumwalt West HS team featuring Zach Hollstrom (St. Louis Scott Gallagher Academy) a Michigan State University Commit. The Irish played well in the first half and went up on a free kick by Dallas Moses. The Irish dominated play and continued to pushed forward and came close on several occasions, but couldn’t put another ball in the back of the net. Fort Zumwalt West made a tactical formation change to begin the second half and began to change the momentum. Midway through the second half FZW was rewarded and evened the score. The game see-sawed back and forth but ended in a 1 – 1 tie. Note: I’m not sure why OT was not played in this game as it was played in other divisions of the tournament.
In the final game of the tournament, the Irish faced Liberty HS from the Kansas City area. The Irish made seven line up changes to begin this match. The young Irish team began the game strong and created an opportunity in the sixth minute followed by another opportunity two minutes later. However, the Blue Jays went up on the Irish off a deflection to the near post. Later in the half, the Irish countered with two goals by Luke Straus (Blake Bremer) and Mitch Moncada (Luke Straus). The Irish continued a strong showing in the second half and got two goals by Evan Craig and one by Reid Harbach (Luke Straus).
The Irish finished second in the group losing out to FZW on goals allowed. The Irish gave up two goals and FZW only gave up one goal. The Irish are now 12 – 0 – 1 on the season.
The Irish continue with a host of games this week, hosting Rogersville on Tues, Ozark on Thursday, and begin the Kickapoo Shoot Out starting Friday followed by two games Saturday.
